Scotland Starts Here is a brand new mobile app (available for iPhone and Android devices) which has been created specifically to help people who are visiting and exploring the Scottish Borders and Midlothian. The combined area covers a large area of Scotland, and there is lots to do here for every traveller on every budget! We are really excited about this new app as it not only lists accommodation at The Old Millhouse, but it also offers a wealth of information for our guests.

Midlothian offers easy access to Scotland’s central belt, allowing short journey times to every Scottish city (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth & Dundee) except for the northern cities of Aberdeen and Inverness. The Scottish Borders are also a short distance to northern England.

There is a never-ending list of attractions and things to do in the Borders and Midlothian, from ancient Castles, Chapels, Abbeys, Museums, Nature Reserves, Breweries, Distilleries, Public Gardens, and even stunning beaches.

The app is full of interactive maps, routes and travel itineraries to help you navigate the whole area. You can also listen to local songs and narrated stories and guides to get the most out of your trip.

All the data from the app can be downloaded onto your phone, so running out of data while you’re on the move is no problem. Activities and routes are broken down to driving, walking, rail, cycling and horseriding, so however you plan to explore the area, Scotland Starts Here has you covered.

The interactive map features everything you need to know for your visit, including places to stay, visitor attractions, petrol stations, electric car charging points, train stations, indoor and outdoor activities, libraries, parking, shopping, distilleries, and toilets.

Remember, the data can be downloaded to the app, so if you are traveling from afar and don’t have data, you can have all this useful info on your phone, no internet required!
